The San Diego Padres on Thursday unveiled the jersey patch honoring late owner Peter Seidler that players and coaches will wear throughout the 2024 season. The team also announced details for a ceremony to celebrate Seidler’s life.

The March 23 ceremony will begin at Petco Park at 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free, although attendees are required to claim digital tickets that will become available Feb. 29.

The idea for the jersey patch design — a “PS” inside a heart — came from Seidler’s children. The Padres will wear the patch over their hearts this season. Each of the team’s various uniform combinations, including San Diego’s City Connect jerseys, will feature the patch.

Seidler died Nov. 14, after 11 years as Padres owner. The team later announced its intention to wear a jersey patch in tribute to the beloved chairman.

The first 10,000 fans at the March 23 ceremony will receive a complimentary jersey patch. The patch also will be available at the Padres’ team store, with net proceeds going to the Padres Foundation and the newly formed Peter Seidler Legacy Fund.

The celebration of life will take place soon after the Padres return from their season-opening series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Seoul, South Korea. Petco Park will host Padres FanFest the next day, March 24, with exhibitions against the Seattle Mariners to follow on March 25 and 26. The Padres will resume regular-season play March 28 with a visit from the San Francisco Giants.
