Arsenal Women are expecting to complete a deal for USWNT defender Emily Fox.

The 25-year-old, who is set to join from North Carolina Courage and has made 39 appearances for the US, was unwittingly in the background of a photo of Beth Mead and Leah Williamson during the club’s training camp in Portugal this week.

Right-back has been a priority position for Arsenal since the summer, after Laura Wienroither’s anterior cruciate ligament injury in May.

Katie McCabe has spent most of the 2023-24 season at right-back, and with their squad registration full heading into January, Noelle Maritz’s permanent departure to Aston Villa has opened a space.

These moves are in line with head coach, Jonas Eidevall’s words on the January window ahead of Arsenal’s final game of 2023.

He said: “I’m not going to comment on any individuals, but the squad is not permanent. I can see us having players (move) both in and out in January.”

Arsenal’s first game of the new year is in the FA Cup against Watford on January 14, where Michelle Agyemang, Katie Reid and Laila Harbert (at Watford on a dual-agreement from Arsenal) will be eligible to play.
